Covid-19 cleaning procedures

Dear Guests,

We are delighted to be open again, and are looking forward to welcoming you to what
must surely be a long-anticipated holiday in beautiful Northumberland!

For guests who have stayed with us before, you will know that our approach to
cleanliness is extremely thorough. The safety and well-being of our all guests and
friends who work with us is our main priority. We will all need to remain vigilant and
we want to reassure you that we will do everything we can to protect our guests and
friends who work with us.

This will include following all the guidance available from national and international
health authorities such as Public Health England and the World Health Organisation -
as well as various industry bodies such as Northumberland Tourism Association and
our colleagues in informal groups of holiday cottage owners. We receive regular
updates from these industry bodies who are sharing hygiene recommendations and
best-practice guidance.

Our Cleaning procedures

Our superb housekeepers have been with us for several years and we have
discussed our extra cleaning processes in detail with them. We have made some
notes below which we hope will explain our plans:

  • All rooms will be deep cleaned after each stay. The hard surfaces will be cleaned
with anti-viral products. We will give priority to all 'high-touch' and horizontal areas.
  • Hand sanitiser and handwash is available in each cottage during your stay. We will
leave cleaning and sanitising sprays and wipes in case you wish to use them.
  • As usual, we will send our full guest information folder by email along with arrival
instructions (in case you prefer not to use the hardcopy in each cottage).
  • We will wash pillow protectors and mattress protectors at each changeover, as well
    as our usual bedding.
  • We have the same laundry service for each changeover.

At the start and end of your visit:

  • Please open the windows to refresh the rooms at the end of your stay.
  • Please load and operate the dishwasher with all items used, and leave it running -
do not empty it. Leave the used tea towels and oven gloves on the workbench.
  • Please could we ask you to strip the beds (leaving the mattress and pillow
protectors in place for our housekeeper to exchange later) and place towels in the
laundry bag or black plastic sack provided.
  • Please discard all dishcloths and scourers, and empty all bins into the outside
dustbin. Glass should be taken to the nearby Council recycling point as usual.
  • We ask that you leave by 9:30am on the day of your departure as we need to allow
a period of 'buffer' time before the housekeeper arrives to clean.
  • The clean will take longer and so please could we ask you to delay your arrival to
the cottage until after 4:00pm. This will allow us time to air the property before you
  • Your key will be in the key box and so you will be able to let yourself in as normal.
Our sanitisation procedures include the keys and safe.
  • Please could we also ask all our guests to follow government guidelines and should
anyone in your party display the virus symptoms (i.e. a fever or a persistent dry cough
or loss of taste and smell) or live with someone who does, then you should isolate at
home for the required period. If you are waiting for the result of your COVID-19 test,
then we would please ask that you cancel your stay and reschedule your visit for another

During your stay - If you became ill with suspected Covid-19:

  • If anyone were to become unwell with the symptoms whilst on holiday please could
you let us know, and we will do our best to provide help and support for you and your
party. The symptoms include a new persistent cough, a high temperature or a loss of
    sense of taste and smell.
  • This is also to ensure that we then take extra precautions between visits. The
cottage will then have a further deep clean.

After your stay - If you became ill with suspected Covid-19:

  • We have set up an action plan and log-book in case we are required to report any
Covid-19 cases to Public Health England and Northumberland Council and contribute
to any contact-tracing requests. We will only add names to it should a guest get in
touch to say they have had the virus or symptoms.
  • Please could we ask you to contact us if any of you become ill with the symptoms
or test positive within 14 days of your stay.

Hopefully all of this will give you peace of mind and will reassure you that we're doing
everything we can at Leaholme Cottages to ensure you can relax and enjoy your stay,
    alongside these new requirements.

Your support for the UK tourism industry is really appreciated and thank you again to
those of you who have contacted us to wish us well.

We will be sending you detailed arrival instructions including the keysafe code a
couple of days before you are due to arrive. Meanwhile if you have any queries then
please do not hesitate to contact us. Should we receive new guidelines we will revise
our plans and get back to you.

We very much look forward to welcoming you back to Leaholme Cottages.
